The I Did Something Good Today Foundation (IDSGTF) created the Adopt-a-Grandparent program to combat the growing issue of social isolation within the senior population. It is also our way of connecting communities. Our motto states, “Community supporting Community”, because it takes an entire community to become aware, get involved and take action.

According to studies, one in five elderly adults is socially isolated from family and/or friends, which can lead to serious mental and physical health problems.

Social isolation in older adults can cause;

  • Cognitive impairment
  • Psychological distress (including depression and anxiety)
  • Neglect of health
  • Morbidity
  • The common cold
  • Mortality

IDSGTF’s Adopt-a-Grandparent program matches seniors to caring individuals who will adopt the older adult as their grandparent and commit to participating in an array of activities with their new companion.

IDSGTF provides various activities, such as;
  • Group Outings
    • Movies
    • Plays
    • Operas
    • Symphonies
    • Dining out
    • Concerts (jazz, etc)
    • Picnics
  • In-person visits
  • Phone/video calls
  • Other group activities
    • Buffet visits
    • Senior Prom
    • Yoga/Zumba/Music Therapy
    • Games (Individual/group)
Our Process
  1. Apply online
  2. Pass background check
  3. Attend two-hour training
  4. Attend a matching event to get connected to your new grandparent
